Chapter Three: The Diary Room
"Rory?" Amy asked. He didn't respond. She knelt next to him, putting her hand on his shoulder. "Rory?" She asked a little more urgently. He lifted his head up off of the Console. Instead of looking at his wife, he looked at the Doctor.
"I knew that it could happen. It's one thing to hear about it, but a completely different thing to see it yourself." He said. The Doctor furrowed his brow.
   "I'm sorry, what?"
"Us. Dying. I knew it could happen. But I never thought I'd see it. One of us die."
   "What are you talking about?"
"What did she do? I mean I understand you and River, but what did she do?"
"Rory, you're not making sense." Amy whispered.
"What did who do? Who died? Rory, what happened while we were gone?"
"Rose." Rory looked right at the Doctor when he said it. The Doctor went still.
"Rose." He repeated. Testing the name out on his new tongue. He slid down next to Rory.
"I understand why the TARDIS has your name. I understand why she has River's. But why Rose? What did she do?"
"What did you see?" The Doctor asked quietly. Rory stood.
   "Can the TARDIS replay anything?"
"Yes, but you have to ask politely."
"Um, TARDIS?" Rory began, "please repeat the last bit of footage that I watched would you? The last three minutes would be good." The Doctor cleared his throat. "Please?" Rory added hurriedly. A screen (type of thing) appeared in the middle of the wall opposite the console. Rory turned away as Rose was blasted again. After it was over there was silence for a moment.
Then the Doctor started to laugh. He stood. Amy and Rory looked at him like he'd just drowned a kitten and then ate it.
"Come with me." He said with a grin. Reluctantly, Rory followed him. Amy looked to River who nodded. They followed as well.
The Doctor led them through winding corridors until Rory had just about given them up for lost. Or, as lost as one could be in the TARDIS. They stopped at a wrought iron door. The Doctor turned to them.
"This is something that I've never shown another Companion." He turned toward the door and back again. "Keep in mind, it is a bit messy." He threw open the door and led them into the largest junk room that any of them had ever seen. And River was an archeologist.
It was old, that much was obvious. It was a blend of multiple cultures all come together in the same area, the same instant, much like the Doctor himself.
"Right, So this is my Diary Room." He said, looking vaguely awkward. 'Course, it was the Doctor. He was always vaguely awkward. "It's where I keep everything about anything that happens to me." He was walking us through the room now. "Souvenirs from my past," we passed twelve plain wooden doors, "and in the rooms, are all of  the records of my past Companions, in the course of each regeneration. Eleven regenerations means ten and a half full rooms, and one left to be filled." He wandered over to the ninth door and opened it. He started to go in before he realized that no one was following. "Well come on!" He said, waving everyone through. River went first, then Amy, then Rory. The Doctor shut the door behind them. The room was long, with three doors and a few pedestals in between them, on which sat a few objects. Remnants of companions that hadn't actually stayed. The Doctor unlocked the first door and opened it wide before entering, as if he were afraid that it would bite him. The room was set up like a library, with shelves lining the wall. On the first shelf was a plastic arm, which made no sense to anyone but the Doctor. And maybe River, Rory thought, because she smiled when he threw it in the air and caught it. He put it back on the shelf. Then he turned to the far wall, on which was a logo that Rory found familiar. It was the symbol that had played whenever the show itself came back on and the announcer said: "brought to you by Bad Wolf corporations." The Doctor turned back to us.
"Oh yeah, I kept the sign. Don't tell anyone it was me, though. They've been looking for it for quite some time now." He put his index finger to his mouth. "All strictly hush hush you know. But this wasn't what I was going to show you." He led us to the back, where there was a tapestry hanging on the wall, depicting a scene wherein a bunch of blue ghosts were chasing a woman with blond hair, a man in a leather jacket, and another man with a truly spectacular beard. The Doctor pulled this tapestry aside and revealed yet another door. The Doctor seemed to be really fond of doors. This one opened into a plain white, hexagonal room. In the middle of the room sat a chair surrounded by six other chairs, each in the middle of one side of the room. "Alright everyone! Grab a seat." The Doctor said, plopping down into the middle chair. Amy took the one facing him, and River and Rory took the ones on either side of her. "Ready?" He asked, fitting on the headgear strapped onto his chair.
"Um, Doctor? You never actually told us what you were doing." Rory said uncertainly.
"I'm going to let you lot inside of my memory." He said.
They're still waiting for the punchline.
So, shorter than usual, but it's an update nonetheless, and I felt that this was a good place to leave off.

The line about drowning a kitten and eating it made me laugh. River is so lucky to know at least some of what's going on. And the Doctor is so funny when he's mean withot ever meaning to be. :)
